What a day! When I arrived at the first day of the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge this morning, I did not think I'd witness something as epic as the outright record being broken. Tim Slade in the MCA Suspension S13 ‘Hammerhead’ broke the outright Pro-class record with a 1:23.76 lap time, which was accidentally interrupted by Under Suzuki, who has been clawing at the top times, but to no avail.
According to the data, the lap time would've been in the low 20s if it wasn't for Under Suzuki being in the way, so we're excited to see what day two, and the final shootout bring.
Under Suzuki has been fighting with his potent Nissan Silvia S15. We haven't seen him set a decent flyer, however his quickest time of the day was a 1:24.24, which is highly respectable considering he hasn't strung together a clean one. One of his final attempts had to be abandoned as several dash warning lights came on, which was caused by a faulty alternator. The poor lad just can't seem to catch a break.
After disaster struck during the test day with the RP968 Porsche's bonnet flying off, the team have managed to get things back together in record time, and now it's on fire. With a best time during day one of 1:24.03, what's yet to come is really anybody's game, but the MCA Suspension S13 driven by Tim Slade will be hard to beat.
