Silverado 1500 Is Coming

HSV successfully introduced the Silverado 2500 heavy-duty truck into the Aussie market back in 2018. Now, the Victoria-based company has decided to double down and bring the smaller and more versatile Silverado 1500 LTZ to both Australian and New Zealand roads.

This is a truck that really doesn’t need an introduction — the Silverado is an icon of American motoring that, for 2020, promises to be more advanced, comfortable, and powerful than ever before. Under the football field–sized bonnet you’ll find a 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 putting down 313kW (419hp) and 624Nm — good enough for a mid-five-second sprint to 100kph. This impressive figure is achieved in part thanks to the loss of about 200kg in comparison with the previous model, despite it having a longer wheelbase and more cargo volume. Reviews so far seem impressed by just how much this reduced weight improves the ride quality and handling.

The motor is backed up by a clever 10-speed transmission that provides far more refinement than you’d expect, surprising fuel economy, and optimization for hauling big loads of up to 4.5 tonnes. Inside, it’s all perforated leather, touchscreen infotainment, heated seats, and even a heated steering wheel — probably pretty useful in winter if you live anywhere south of Wellington.

We’re thinking that when the Colorado, Hilux, or Ranger just isn’t cutting it, this might just be the next logical step for your work or play steed. The Silverado 1500 LTZ will be available at HSV dealerships from this month, but at the time of print we haven’t been able to nail down an RRP.
