AutoFest rebirth

AutoFest is fast growing into the country’s biggest two-day car event for hot rods, classics, V8s, and street machines. All it really needed was a track — and now it’s got one!

After skipping last year, AutoFest will be back, stronger than ever, on the weekend of 11–12 September. It’s roaring back with a new format, offering more for drivers, and, most importantly, a new location: Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon.

New track-focussed events include a cruise with your mates, slow sessions, ladies only sessions, roll racing, grip sessions, drifting (demo only), power skids (demo only), and much more.

Proven highlights from the previous Mystery Creek AutoFests include a V8-only burnout competition, a BBQ competition, Retro-o-rama, live music, Miss AutoFest, and a wheel-changing competition.

Burnouts! Competition is hot for a spot. Day one will see qualifying from a field of 20. The top 10 will go into Sunday’s final against 10 selected burnout veterans, vying for the title of AutoFest Burnout King and a $4000 cash prize. Another four grand is on the line for the best show car, and donations will also be made to charities of the winners’ choice.

The two-day indoor show ’n’ shine is open to all classics, street machines, and custom bikes, and all entrants will get the chance to take part in the Grand Show Parade on Sunday afternoon, which will include a run around the track. There will also be an outdoor show on both days.

AutoFest will be scanning the entrants to select the event’s Fab Four to be announced on Sunday morning by banners in the stands.

If your car is of the elite rank, be sure to email pare@downtimenz.com to secure yourself one of 20 ‘golden tickets’ to the event.

This is shaping up to be a huge event, so if you want to play a part or camp onsite, register now on the website to avoid missing out. Prices are $25, or $40 for a weekend pass; kids 10 and under are free. Track entry is $150 for one day or $250 for both days.
